diet and risk of hemorrhagic stroke: yes or no? Dear Sir: I read with great interest the article entitled ‘‘Mediterranean-style diet and risk of ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular death: the Northern Manhattan Study’ ’ by Gardener et al (1). In this report, the authors found that higher consump-tion of a Mediterranean-style diet (MEDI) was inversely asso-ciated with risk of the composite outcome of ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or vascular death (P-trend 0.04). Al-though the authors claimed that the inclusion of both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke did not alter the study results for ische-mic stroke in this cohort, hemorrhagic stroke was not examined alone.
