Objectives After completing this article, readers should be able to: 1. Describe the clinical manifestations of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. 2. Delineate the infants who are at increased risk for serious RSV infection. 3. Explain why older children and adults who have immunosuppression and the elderly may have significant RSV disease. 4. Explain why timely identification of RSV by antigen detection or culture may be helpful. 5. Describe for whom prophylaxis with immunoglobulin and treatment with antivirals should be considered
