Part 1 identifies major general purpose federally-sponsored programs funding unsolicited proposals. The report explains the programs and suggests strategies to use when applying for grants from the Office of Education, the National Science Foundation, and the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities. The appendices include a list of regional OE research offices and addresses; the 1972 OE research budget; a guide to 1972 OE administered research programs; and a selected guide to government agencies and personnel. Part 2 provides a definition and developmental history of private foundations, brief descriptions of fourteen major foundations, and suggestions for securing foundation funds.
