There are a group of genital infections which continue to defy rapid and effective treatment. The variety of organisms believed causative in infections such as non-specific vaginitis, genital warts and genital lesions typify those infective agents which are not amenable to simple, satisfactory therapy. The value of povidone-iodine formulations in the treatment of genital herpes is reviewed with specific reference to primary Herpes Simplex type 2 infection.
