The excited-state deprotonation dynamics of 2-naphthol molecules encapsulated in NaX nanocavities has been studied by measuring fluorescence kinetics as well as reflectance and fluorescence spectra. The molecule at a strong base site undergoes excited-state deprotonation within 300 ps while the one at a weak base site does on the time scale of 2500 ps, indicating that the deprotonation rate is determined by the proton-accepting ability of an adsorbed site.close0
