We are in the habit rf contenting ourselves with a division of law into two categories, the civil and the criminal. The civil we again livide into law and equity, and these further into a number of more or less inter-related subjects. When we commence the study of the laws of Christian nations other than Great Britain, the Scandinavian'countries, Switzerland and ourselves, we find that a large part of the law which we call civil ' and a small part of the criminal have separated themselves off or grown up independently and form a distinct body known as commercial law.
