Abstract. The introduction of computers into education is not important because it is getting us to talk about computers. It is important because it is getting us to talk about education. Because the computer offers such a range of applications, we are forced to ask what we are going to use it for and why we are choosing to use it in a certain way with certain students. It is ant excuse, and a good one, to reflect on our practice, to articulate our educational goals, and to surface hidden assump-tions and values, which may be guiding our practice without our being aware of what a powerful influence they are having.
