In this article it is proposed that approached in the right way, literature reviews can be an opportunity for creative inquiry. The process of the literature review is framed as a participation in a community, a dialogue with those who are part of the com-munity now and with one’s “ancestors. ” The literature review can also explore the deeper underlying assumptions of the larger community or communities of inquiry one is joining and one’s own beliefs, assumptions, and attachments. Three levels are proposed that each provide a different perspective on the construction of knowledge. The article concludes with a brief overview of the way inquiry, specifically in the con-text of the literature review, can also be an opportunity for self-inquiry
