This dissertation focuses on the design and tailoring of dirhodium complexes and the investigation of their structural, spectroscopic and theoretical properties. The variation of the ligands occupying the equatorial (eq) positions results in appreciable changes in the structure and the electronic properties, which renders them suitable for different applications. The coordination of methyl isocyanide ligands to dirhodium centers bridged by electron-rich formamidinate or orthometalated phosphine ligands led to a family of unprecedented dirhodium complexes of general formula cis-[Rh_(2)(μ-L)_(2)(CNCH_(3))_(6)]^(2+) (L = bridging ligand).
