The primary aim of this thesis is to explore the relationship between Research and Development, innovation and productivity in Uruguay. The empirical tests are based on a large firm-level data set for the manufacturing sector in the period 1998-2012. I constructed an unbalanced panel of firm data from five waves of the Uruguayan Innovation Surveys merged with firms specific characteristics from the Economic Activity Surveys. Taking in consideration the peculiarity of the available data, to disentangle the links between investments in R&D and innovation and innovation and productivity, the analysis is conducted within the CDM-framework
