Chapter 1 considers the importance of the manuscript and looks at pre-vious research; it assesses how that research is now out-of-date, has not kept up with newer knowledge and codicological methodology and identifies uncorrected inconsistencies and inaccuracies. It sets out aims and purposes for this current study along codicological, literary and socio-literary lines. Chapter 2 provides a general description of the manuscript before considering more specifically its Bavarian dialect and possible Nuremberg provenance. Questions of dating are also considered.
