abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this evidence-based practice project is to implement an educational program on mental illness for acute care nurses and measure the impact on their attitudes towards caring for mentally ill patients in an acute care setting. Background and Significance: Patients experiencing mental illness are more likely to have multiple risk factors for chronic illness and die at a younger age than the general population. Patients with mental illness face negative attitudes and stigma surrounding their disease process.
