Based on theories about social identity, we study the moderating role of perceived group status across ethnicity and either psycho-social adjustment or discrimination. We applied a survey to a quasi-random sample of the main two immigrant groups of immigrants in the Basque Country: Latinos and Africans. In line with our hypotheses, differences between Latin-American and African immigrants were moderated by perceptions about the relationship between majorities and minorities, specifically by the legitimacy and stability of differences in status, fraternal resentment and group efficacy.
