Advisors: Rahmila Murtiana M.A and Nurlaila Kadariyah S.Ag, M.Pd.\ud Keywords: influence, improve, English ability, freshman students.\ud This thesis describes the influence or the effect of learning teaching of Language Development Center (PPB) to improve English Ability for freshman students at IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin academic year 2015/2016. \ud The research problems are: 1. How is English ability of freshman students before they take at Language Development Center (PPB) class. 2. how is English ability of freshman students after they take Language Development Center (PPB) class. 3. Is there any significant influence of PBB class to improve English ability for freshman students at IAIN Antaari Banjarmasin academic year 2015/2016.\ud The population of this research are all of freshman students at IAIN Antasari Banjamasin who already take PPB class and the sample are 85 students from six lower classes or groups of PPB, divided into groups 66, 67,68,76,77, and 78.\ud To collect the data, writer uses some techniques such as test (written test) and documentary. In analyzing data, the writer uses quantitative research. Data proccessing in this research is divided into four phases : editing, coding, tabulating and interpretation. Then, all of data are analyzed by statistic quantitative.\ud The result of this research shows the students’ English ability before study at PPB class are all of group samples in very poor category, the calculating mean of placement test result is 23.98. the students’ English ability after study at PPB class are groups 66,67,68, and 76 in very poor category, and groups 77 and 78 in poor category, the calculating mean of written test result is 47.62. And the data analysis, the writer uses paired t test by SPSS 17, the result is there is significant difference between students’ English ability before and after study at Language Development Center (PPB) IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin academic year 2015/2016
