Abstract The greenhouse horticulture sector is looking for new plant protection methods such as “resilient cultivation”. The means that are used in practice are summarized by composts, microorganisms, extracts and nutrients. Resilient cultivation provides perspective based on the basis of both scientific literature and practical experience of growers. It is not always a given effect, but growers are pleased with additives such as especially within a concept approach which includes a water treatment, and the use of compost or compost tea and seaweed or algae. However, major issues exist such as legal authority, knowledge about optimal conditions, homogeneity in composition and durability and shelf life of products. Application of bacterial and fungal preparations for soil cultivation is mainly an expected value when added to planting material or with supporting materials. Also, the efficacy of agents against diseases and pests is a big question mark, because there are no fast methods to assess their effects. In nature it is usually a stack of mechanisms responsible for a drastic reduction in damage to the plant.
