The literature about Dutch presence in Indonesia in the colonial era is mainly written by white Dutch expats who stood at the apex of the colonial hierarchy. Their adventures in the Dutch East Indies dominate, while the lives of the majority of the Dutch born and raised in Indonesia, mainly of mixed Dutch-Indonesian descent, were ignored. This study is about their whereabouts in the heydays of colonial empire 1920-1941and its final days, 1941-1949 when the evolution towards Indonesian independence started resulting in total freedom in 1949, until 1960 when Dutch New Guinea as last remnant of the Dutch East Indies was handed over to Indonesia. The story of the Dutch Eurasians whose position was always ambivalent due to the fact that they were not accepted as equal by the white Dutchmen because of their partly Indonesian background, and neither by the Indonesians because they acted superior to the native population, is taled by focussing on the Indo-European Verbond. This Eurasian political and socio-economic organization represented the interests of the Dutch Eurasian in the colony and afterwards. It is a story about loss of status, identity and country linked to the ending of Dutch rule, ending in the departure of most Eurasians to the Netherlands due to the escalating New Guinea conflict in the 1950s as a not wanted minority in a country they were rooted in, a country struggling to severe all neo colonial bonds with the former colonial motherland
