Standaardisatie van persoonsdosimetrie bij beroepsmatige blootstelling aan ioniserende straling

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment requested RIVM to investigate the standardisation of individual monitoring for occupational exposures to ionising radiation. Law lays down the assessment of the effective or equivalent dose of exposed workers. According to the objective of this study a summary is provided of possibilities to relate the monitoring results to the effective dose and its registration in the National Dose Registration and Information System (NDRIS). Thus the possibility is created for the data registered in NDRIS to be an accurate feasible representation of the actually received (effective) dose. By using the available literature and consulting experts in the field of radiation protection and work protocols, four policy options for applying correction factors are proposed. Such a correction would only be appropriate for the medical practice and only if the dosimeter is worn outside the lead apron. We recommend, in accordance with all other European countries, not to use a correction on the monitored dose. Furthermore, we recommend the following. Only if the monthly or four weekly dose exceeds a derived limit of one tenth of the annual dose limit, one is allowed to reassess the effective dose. This is done in 7 countries of the European Union. An appropriate local radiation expert (minimum level 3) may carry out this reassessment. The radiation expert must work under the responsibility of a radiation expert with a level 2 qualification. When the corrected value significantly differs from the monitored dose the employer may request the Labour Inspectorate to adjust the dose in the dose registration system.
