This report contains the results of a study into the role played by traffic education in the first three years in Dutch secondary schools. The study was carried out by SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research together with the Central Institute for School Examinations (CITO). In Spring 1999, about 1200 teachers of the first three years in secondary education completed a written questionnaire. The sample was stratified by school type, year, and subject. The school types were Higher Vocational Schools (HVC), Lower and Higher General Secondary Education (LGSE & HGSE), pre-University (P-U), and combinations of these types.
