The objective of this evaluation study was to ascertain the effect of a long and repetitive campaign on speeding, offences and attitude of drivers on a network of rural roads with a speed limit of 80 km/h. The aim is general prevention, that is to reduce speeds driven, irrespective of time and place. All campaigns have the same design: publicity, enforcement using a radar car and camera (speeders were not stopped), a feed-back sign downstream the radar car ("Your speed has been checked"), and a survey among drivers. Speed campaign II is a continuation of campaign I (See IRRD 890086) conducted in the South East of the Dutch province of Friesland in the 1995-1996 period. The number of enforcement hours per road per week was higher during campaign II (2 hours) than in campaign I (1.4 hours). In the two campaigns, the number of radar-hours differed a lot between the road sections and the number of control hours.
