De kencijfermethodiek in vervoerregionale studies : reactie op een veiligheidsscenario voor de vervoerregio Eemland.

The Transport Research Centre (AVV) of the Ministry of Transport requested the SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research to respond to the VIA Verkeersadvisering's draft report about safety scenarios in the Eemland transport region. SWOV has worked out a proposal for application of the so-called safety indicator method with the drafting of the Regional Transport and Traffic Plans (RVVPs). This method enables predictions to be made about the number of road accidents and casualties, using indicators for the safety of traffic situations. The graphic representation of these figures demonstrates a relationship for each type of traffic situation between, on the one hand, the characteristics of design and traffic volume, and on the other hand, the accidents associated with that situation. Per road type, national indicators can be compared with local accident and traffic volume figures. A specific assessment method can be used to pinpoint relatively hazardous local situations. Indicators are distinguished on the basis of changes over time in response to various influences and measures, in particular the sustainable road safety measures.
