Motieven voor jonge autobestuurders om de autogordels niet (altijd) te gebruiken : een belevingsstudie.

A qualitative study has been conducted among a small group of young male motorists who do not always wear a seat belt. This study took place in the Dutch province of Gelderland and was commissioned by the regional board of Gelderland. The study provides a very clear picture of feelings, experiences, perception and opinion in relation to behaviour. In other words, the study aims to analyse how these people make sense of the world they live in, in this case the world of car driving and the use of seat belts. Arguments in support of behaviour are not well developed and seem to justify behaviour and feelings rather than fulfil a separate function. During driving lessons, seat belts are faithfully worn. Thereafter, a proportion of young motorists clearly go their own way. The police are seen as not much of a threat. The main reasons given for not wearing a seat belt are discomfort and the wish to choose for oneself, since personal injury would be involved and no injury to other persons. The motorists concerned indicate that they would be willing to do anything to prevent injuring others. (A
