The Safety Department of Rijkswaterstaat commissioned SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research to carry out a pilot study into driving speeds in a medium-sized municipality in the Netherlands (See also IRRD 859306). This paper analyses data from speed measurements using pneumatic tubes carried out in the municipality of Ede. The paper gives an overview of variation in speed on different arterial roads in this city, depending upon the following variables: (1) day of the week; (2) time of day; and (3) traffic intensity.
