The use of safety belts has shown to be one of the most efficient means to decrease the number of traffic victims. The belt prevents the vehicle occupant to collide with the interior of the vehicle at an accident and prevents ejection. The efficiency of safety belts, misunderstanding about safety belts, the use of safety belts in the Netherlands, characteristics and improvements of the use of safety belts are discussed. Besides automatic belts and air bag systems the use can be improved by making the wearing of the belt more comfortable
