There are still few research results known on the influence of the reclassification and reconstruction of residential areas, and in particular of woonerven, on the performance of traffic accidents. In a before and after study 56 woonerven and 13 other, smaller, reconstructed and reclassified areas are studied. A high accident reduction occurs -when the roads are reconstructed as woonerven. Other less radical countermeasures have also a positive effect
