Blast analysis using numerical techniques has become increasingly relevant to anticipate the material response of protective structures. Improvised explosive devices and land mines pose a significant threat to the occupants of armoured vehicles, it’s therefore important to increase the accuracy of the numerical analysis by incorporating more sophisticated material models whilst maintaining mathematical tractability. The current research employs an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) numerical technique in the hydrocode LS-DYNA for the analysis of the blast event.
