Though opioid users report a decrease in negative emotions after opioid administration, there has been no formal study on the effect of opioids on emotional reactivity. This thesis details a body of work using mood induction procedures on opioid maintenance treatment patients, with the main aim of determining the effect of changing plasma opioid concentrations on emotional reactivity. Secondary aims include determining the relationship between pain sensitivity and depression or anxiety in methadone maintenance patients.
