INTRODUCTION: There are significant human, social, and business costs associated with work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD), despite being the subject of extensive research and widespread interventions. A profile of WRMSD can be obtained via workers compensation data, but the distribution of precursor conditions, such as localised body pain and discomfort, are not routinely assessed. Moreover, there is a paucity of data in Australia. The experience of pain has a psychological component, and it is now believed that psychosocial factors are an independent cause of WRMSD.
