Hutt, Frederick Bruce

Memorial Statement for Professor Frederick Bruce Hutt, M.A., Ph.D., D.Sc. (1897-1991) who was Chairman (1934) of the Department of Poultry Husbandry in the College of Agriculture and Chairman (1939-1944) of the Department of Zoology in the College of Arts and Sciences. "Professor Hutt's teaching at Cornell began with a course in Poultry Genetics that continued for about 30 years" and wrote a classic work, "Genetics of Fowl", which soon became the 'bible' for all those interested in poultry genetics and poultry breeding. After returning to the Poultry Department in 1955, he taught a basic "course in genetics especially designed for veterinary students" related to animal traits at the College of Veterinary Medicine for 20 years. He also authored several texts, including " Animal Genetics" (1964), "Genetic Resistance to Disease in Domestic Animals" (1958), and "Genetics for Dog Breeders" (1979).
