The underlying mechanisms of suggestibility consist both cognitive and social components. Generally speaking, age is associated with decreased suggestibility when the suggestibility is examined from the cognitive perspective. The dissertation examines how the acquisition of metacognitive ability (metamemory, narrative knowledge, source monitoring, and knowledge about knowledge) influences the extent of suggestibility from both cognitive and social perspectives. Preschool children's suggestibility was measured with Video Suggestibility Scale for Children (VSSC) (Scullin & Ceci, 2001), which consists of two subscales, Yield focusing more on the cognitive aspect of suggestibility and Shift focusing more on the social aspect.
