It represents an attempt to provide a representative view of Scottish silver production over the centuries as reflected in extant examples. Additionally, the catalog is useful in evaluating the relative rarity of various forms (e.g. Scottish cake baskets or dish crosses) as well as the primary craftsmen producing specific forms (e.g. egg-shaped teapots, dolphin-handled creamboats).
