International audienceThis paper presents household behavioral responses to traffic congestion in two major cities, São Paulo and Paris. An interactivestated response survey (simulation game) was conducted in São Paulo (2009) and Paris (2010) to identify and understand householdchoice process when facing both recurrent congestion (longer travel times) and non-recurrent congestion (variable and unpredictabletravel times). Stated behavioral responses were organized in five groups: marginal adjustments, modal alterations, spatial alterations,temporal alterations and radical alterations.
