International audienceIsidore of Seville is one of the main sources for the entries on grammar in the Liber Glossarum. Most of book I of Etymologiae (around 90 percent of it) is reproduced in around 400 different entries of the Carolingian encyclopedia, which are explicitly and correctly ascribed to Isidore in most cases. This means that the full content of the learning programme which Isidore presents in summary form in Etymologiae is contained in Liber Glossarum. The authors of the glossary made simultaneous use of a copy of Isidore’s work and other materials, including several parts of his text completed and rewritten with the help of other sources on grammar related to Visigothic Spain.
