Walking is generally considered as a natural and obvious activity for utilitarian or recreational purposes. Yet, that activity is complex to conceptualize. First, it includes a continuum of pedestrian users with various abilities to move. For instance, anyone can someday be confronted with a situation of disability and can have to face the environment. Second, beyond the accessibility issue, the mobility and walking behaviours are also influenced by a set of needs and criteria: feasibility, usefulness, safety, environmental and physical comfort, pleasure and sense of belonging.
