This thesis proposes an approach for the design and implementation of collaborative cache systems in grids that supports capabilities for monitoring and controlling cache interactions. Our approach permits to compose and evaluate high-level collaborative cache functions in a flexible way. Our proposal is based on a multilayer model that defines the main functions of a collaborative grid cache system. This model and the provided specification are used to build a flexible and generic software infrastructure for the operation and control of collaborative caches.
