International audienceThe studies carried of ancient aqueducts were satisfied with the evaluation of a medium slope which was calculated by the difference between the altitude of the water intake and the arrival point in the city. This method is inadequate. The channel slope depends on the topography. The maximum flow of water is dependent on the section where the slope is weakest and the least important.
