International audienceThis article describes and compares the characteristics of the use of Linkedln by Canadian and French HR professionals through the analysis of several interviews. Similarities can be observed. On the one hand, LinkedIn can be a tool for developing skills: the developmental effects of self-marketing are here an unexplored field of research. On the other hand, we understand the limits of LinkedIn for the identification of competences, because the act of self representation can generate a biased representation of these. Here Canadians seem to stand out in their way of questioning the Linkedln profiles, of replacing value judgments too hasty by questions.
