"The potentially severe Desert Locust situation which developed in the Darfur and Kordofan States during the July- September 1993 summer breeding period of the Desert Locust was averted by a combination of chemical control and subsequent unfavourable conditions for further breeding. The present project contributed 13 600 litres of Dursban ULV pesticide to the operations. Some training of locust control personnel was organized during the 1993 campaigns. However, further training of locust control staff in handling, storage and application of pesticides is needed to improve protection of both humans and the environment"
