Due to emerging technological developments, the practice of engineering is changing remarkably. One of the main concerns of engineering education is to keep up with these revolutionary changes and incorporate them into the engineering curriculum. Social and professional needs have always been involved in the process of curriculum development and competencies set by professional organisations form a reference point for educational institutions. In this paper we argue that academics and administrators in universities are at the heart of change in their role as curriculum developers and implementers.
