THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE CHANGES TOWARDS FUEL FRACTION ON BUTON ASPHALT HYDROCRACKING

Asphalt owned by Buton Island is quite much but not fully utilized. The structure of asphalt that contains a lot of aromatic compounds required hydrocracking in order to be smaller hydrocarbon fractions that can become an alternative fuel source. This research conducted in 2 stages: preparation of the catalyst Ni(3)-Pd(1)/Zeolite-Y 1%, followed hydrocracking Buton asphalt. Hydrocracking done by entering the catalyst in reactor and asphalt extracts at autoclave. Asphalt steam flowed into the reactor which was filled with catalyst, H2 gas flowed into the reactor until the desired pressure and until the situation is considered steady state. This procedure is repeated for variations in temperature and pressure. The liquid hydrocracking product formed was analyzed by Gas Chromatography Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Gas Chromatography GC) to know of compound hydrocarbon and percentage of fractions hydrocarbon. The results that Buton asphalt hydrocracking produce gasoline fuel fractions (C7- C12) and solar (C13 –C15). Hydrocracking provides optimal conversion at temperature of 400 °C and pressure of 5 atm in the amount of 68.29%. At temperature of 400 ºC hydrocracking product containing 62.25% gasoline fraction. If hydrocracking liquid product expected containing balance fractions of gasoline and diesel, the reactor temperature should be at 450 °C and pressure of 5 atm which gasoline fraction obtained 56.59% and diesel 43.40%
