The impact of libraries as creative spaces

The Creative Spaces Impact Framework allows for the evaluation of libraries as creative spaces through the creative activities they enable. These activities may be formally organised by the library, informally enacted by library clients, or involve a combination of both approaches. In summary, the framework can be used to: • Identify and generate creative activity – The framework will help library staff think about and identify creative activity, consider what outcomes ow from creative activity and re-imagine existing activities. • Identify objectives and outcomes for creative activity – Library staff will be able to use the Creative Spaces Impact Framework criteria and impact indicators to set and monitor objectives and outcomes for creative activity with greater consistency. • Align creative activity with community needs – By connecting with broader data about the needs of the communities, public libraries can link these with creative activities (existing or new), and align support and service provision accordingly. • Monitor trends and strategic planning – If used consistently over time, across a range of initiatives, the framework can provide longitudinal and comparative qualitative and quantitative data regarding the impact of libraries as creative spaces. • Guide exit surveys – By using a common framework to guide exit surveys conducted with the participants of these activities, comparisons can be made over time and across library services, building an overall picture of the impact of libraries as creative spaces
