The success of Positron Emmission Tomography (PET) in oncological imaging is based on the fact that malignancy leads to an alteration in cellular biochemical reactions. PET tracers, used for detecting malignancies, are synthetic positron emitting analogues of molecules involved in these metabolic processes.
