Digital ImageLeonie Nelly Sachs was born in Berlin on December 10, 1891. She arrived in Sweden as a refugee with her mother on May 16, 1940. Sachs remained in Sweden as a writer and traslator. In 1965 she was honored with the ‘Peace Prize of the German Book Trade’ (Friedenspreis des deutschen Buchhandels) in Frankfurt, and in 1966 she received the Nobel Prize for Literature. Nelly Sachs died in Stockholm, May 12, 1970
