When he was five years old the family moved to Leobschuetz. After military service in World War I he became the co-owner of a furniture moving business in Breslau and was the president of the "Breslauer Spediteursverein". He emigrated to Austria in 1936, to Great Britain in 1939, and to the USA in 1939.
