[My Mother's diary] 1920-1942

Ella Pick’s handwritten diary that describes mainly her son’s upbringing is followed by Rudolph Pick’s English translation of his mother’s diary. Also included is Rudolph Pick’s short typescript about his and his own family’s survival of the Holocaust (in German).The diary was written between 1920 and 1942. In 1937 he enrolls at the Vienna Technical University. Anschluss in 1938 and move to Prague. After the German occupation of Prague in March of 1939, Rudolph Pick leaves for Paris.Ella Pick, nee Rosenbaum was born on October 7, 1887 in Vienna. Her parents Jonas and Regina Rosenbaum (nee Neurath) originated from Slovakia. Ella attended commercial school and worked in an insurance office. In 1918 she got married to Vilem Pick. Through her marriage, Ella acquired Czech citizenship, since her husband was a fervent Czech patriot. After the Anschluss in 1938, the couple went to Prague, where her husband continued his work for a Czech company.
