This collection contains a variety of items from the career of composor and director Siegmund Hess (1838-1912) of Mühlingen, Germany. The earliest item in the collection appears to be a schedule with classes from his musical education; followed by a composition entitled "Deutschland 1870," a calling card, personal letters pertaining to concerts, programs from concerts, and newspaper clippings including Hess's obituary.Included in the collection but with uncertain correlation is a hand copied birth certificate from 1938 for Bertha Wiesenthal, born 1850 in Dessau.Siegmund Hess was born in 1838 in Mühlingen, the son of a musical family.
