Paul Kohn Collection 1791-1916

The collection contains documents of the Karpeles, Tedsco, and Kohn families of Prague, particularly Wolf Karpeles and Malka née Zerkowitz (married 1791); Gerson Karpeles and Rosa née Austerlitz (married 1820); Friedrich (Frederick) Tedesco and Regina née Karpeles (married 1841); and Alexander Kohn and Johanna née Tedesco (married 1880).The collection contains various government documents, including permissions to marry; tax documents; an inheritance settlement; excerpt from the 1841 census pertaining to the Karpeles family; and court documents. Personal documents include wedding invitations and marriage contracts; citizenship documents; banking documents; identity card; school certificates; receipts and invoices; and wills. The collection also contains family correspondence, including letters to Frederick Tedesco in Metuchen, New Jersey, from family members in Prague; and business correspondence to Josef Wien and Eli Mitschels in Metuchen from Gerson Karpeles and Ludwig Tedesco in Prague. Also included are clippings pertaining to the Dreyfus affair, obituaries for Ludwig Tedsco and Karoline Taussig née Tedesco, and three photographs of the Jewish quarter in Prague.The original inventory is available in the folderProcessed for digitizatio
