National Conference on Addictions in the Jewish Community was sponsored by the Council of Jewish Federations and the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York in June 1986. On tape 1, at the invitation of the Council of Jewish Federations and the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, Dr. Robert Custer speaks about compulsive gambling and its effects on the Jewish community as well as the possibility of treatment. On the second tape, Workshop speakers candidly discuss role of family in addiction situation, especially in relation to recovery, acceptance, or enabling an addict within the context of the Jewish community. On tape 3, conference speakers include Dr. Sheila B. Blume, South Oaks Hospital on Long Island, who discusses some common factor with alcoholism, drug addiction, and compulsive gambling; Rabbi Abraham J.
