The collection contains 28 handwritten and signed letters from Meyer Kayserling to his future wife Bertha Philippson, who was the daughter of Ludwig Philippson, founder of the Allgemeine Zeitung des Judenthums. The letters are dated from January 1861 to May 1861, during which time Kayserling was living and teaching in Berlin. The letters contains reports about Kayersling's work and studies, particularly his preparation of a biography of Moses Mendelssohn and his study of Spanish Jews.
