Herbert and Helen Daniels Allen looking at the engravings of their names on the cornerstone of Rice University’s Allen Center. Allen was an alumnus of the William M. Rice Institute, and made his career as a mechanical engineer with Cameron Ironworks, as well as being a prolific inventor. He also served as chairman of Rice University’s board of trustees. Original resource is a black and white photograph.The Allen Center was dedicated as part of the 1967 Homecoming events. Herbert Allen graduated from Rice Institute and worked for Cameron Iron Works, Inc. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors at Rice University
