Violeta Panis oral history interview and transcript

This recording and transcript form part of a collection of oral history interviews conducted by the Chao Center for Asian Studies at Rice University. This collection includes audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Asian Americans native to or living in Houston.Violeta Sison Panis was born in Agoo, La Union, Philippines. She lived there for her entire childhood, staying at her grandmother's house as the oldest child. She had five other siblings. As a young adult she decided to become a nurse and studied extremely hard to be the best she could be and gain the opportunity to come to America. She eventually came to the United States through a travel agency that was bringing in nurses. She was brought to Texas on a two-year visa in 1998 and thoroughly enjoyed her experiences. Her fiance and future husband also moved to America, but to a different state, California. She worked hard as a nurse and eventually made her way to head nurse. Her fiance found a job in Houston through a friend and then they were married
